225/50/16 tires on A4!!!

I went to a NTB (National Tire & Battery) today to have
225/50/16 Dunlop SP 8000s put on my 1.8tq. I told them
to start with one of the rear wheels because there had
been some debate about clearance. The tire was installed
and looked FANTASTIC! Much wider and more aggresive than
the 205/55/16s. The wheel spun freely when up on the
lift and I didn't think the geometry changed at all when
the car was lowered. NEVERTHELESS, NTB refused to do the
installation, saying there wasn't enough clearance and
they were afraid of getting sued if something happened.
Does anyone have this setup on their A4 and how does
it work???
