A6QW vs. LHS
I agree that the LHS is not in the same class as the A6QW. But, in all
fairness, it also isn't in the same class as the A6QW. The LHS started
life as a sportier Chrysler New Yorker (seriously - the difference was the
suspension and bucket seats) - it was never designed to be an Audi or BMW.
The LHS is also about $8K less than a comparably-equipped A6, and is not
availble with a stickshift (which any serious driver would insist on
having.) Your A6Q has the benefit of Quattro too, which improves ride more
than you'd expect - for example, going around rough corners while
accelerating from a stop. The LHS is FWD.
So what is the niche for the LHS? Americans who would have bought a
Lincoln Conti, a Chrysler New Yorker, or a Cadillac ten years ago, but now
want something as comfy for long driving but a bit more responsive.
One other detail: The LHS is on it's final model year. It was introduced
in 92, I believe. The A6 was just redesigned. Compare the LHS to a 1986
Audi (say an 80), and you might have preferred a different car. The '98
LHS is going to be aimed more specifically at the BMW-type market.
This isn't to say that I don't consider the A6 superior. I do. I have a
'97 A4Q. But I don't believe your comparison is any more valid than
comparing large pickup trucks against those made in Germany and claiming
that this proof that Germans can't build large powerful long-lasting
machines. (Incidently, passenger trucks top sellers in America last year.)
