Ur quattro engine job
For those of you who might be interested, the head gasket job on my quattro
has so far gone like this:-
3 hours this morning in very hot sunshine (30+ deg), removed grill,
headlights, cooling pipes, aux radiator, air box, fuel distributor and fuel
lines.
Break to take daughter on visit to my parents, but as we always get a good
meal with free beer (very cold) its worth it.
Another hour tonight to remove the inlet manifold, packed up for now, start
again tomorrow.
I have changed my opinion of the garage that carried out the previous top
overhaul, they have a good reputation in my area but I have found the
following - number 4 injector loose in the head, also missing the lower o ring
(there should be two shouldnt there? a large one at the top and a smaller one
at the bottom?) it may be in the cylinder for all I know, one exhaust manifold
nut loose and another missing completely, all the inlet manifold bolts only
finger tight and some of the fuel unions so tight that I cant free them. Why
do mechanics take pleasure in fitting hose clips at just the angle where you
cant get to them?
The current head gasket is a REINZ, as is the only replacement that I have
been able to get. Reinz are one of the VAG OE suppliers arent they?
More news tomorrow night.
