Help
I was directed to this list as a place where I might get some help. My
daughters 1984 VW Quantum is having an electrical fuel problem. We
replaced the pump (the old one was bad) but the new one doesn't work. I
traced the wire back to the engine and found two problems.
1) the BROWN wire that goes into what looks like a pressure sensor, should
be hot (+) isn't. It even appears to be shorted.
2) bypassing the BROWN wire just before the sensor the voltage drops to
about 10.5V at the pump and the pump won't run at that voltage. Bypassing
the sensor the pump starts right up and so does the car.
I could use some help, ether verbal or a source where I could get a copy of
the schematic. I've tried the auto shops and libraries around town lots of
general books but nothing specific on the fuel electrical system.
What is between the "pressure sensor" and the battery? Measuring the
resistance at the sensor terminals shows as almost a short (less than 1
ohm).
If this is the wrong place to find this information let me know where to
go.
Thanks
Brad
