Rumours in the U.S. are that when the new VW line-up is introduced, 
especially when the Passat/synchro enters the fray,  the Audi line-up 
will eventually be modified and pricing will edge upwards (upmarket?).

Evidently, when the S4 and S6 models are introduced, this will complete 
the U.S. Audi line-up and the cars will be based solely on V6 and V8 
engines. Thus ending up with a 1999 line-up of the A4 and A6 with V6, 
S6 and A8 with V8. 

The 1.8 engine will remain but only as a VW product.
