I did both when I bleed the brakes on my Audi.  Using the homemade pressure
bleeder, I could only get about 20 psi built up, very slow bleeding.  Tried
bleeding the brakes once with the Mityvac but it didn't work very well.
Hmmm, used both at the same time to create a larger pressure difference.
Works great.  Warning, watch the reservoir level closely, esp. with the
front brakes.  One other thing, I used a bicycle pump with pressure guage
built into it, worked great.
