Bentley Manuals - how to get them

Dear Jeff:

About your question 2:

The "Bentley" references are to the "Official Factory Repair Manual"
published by Robert Bently, Inc. [100 Massachusets Avenue, Cambridge
Massachusetts 02138]. They have a web site that lists all publications.
For a complete listing call 800-423-4595.

Mine is for the VW Quantum (I have a 1986 Syncro Wagon); in it are
mentioned 7 Audi manuals, for cars up to 1990.

You can buy them from J.C. Whitney at about 10% off list, or from VW and
Audi dealers. I have seen them advertised in parts catalogs and in the
back (small ad) of European Car magazine. They vary between about $45 and
$85, depending on number of models covered by each manual.

I found the manual very helpful, and actually enjoy reading it just to
know more about my car. Thre manual assumes you know some basics about the
cars and has other shortcomings, and it works best if you have access to a
parts manual, which (if nothing else) you can do at the dealer's parts
department, if the clerk is nice/helpful/patient and/or appreciates the
fact that you like Audis. [sometimes you find ads for parts manuals, in
microfiche format) in Hemmings.]

Hope this helps,
