RE: 2WD V. AWD

Hi,

Audi's Quattro system has 4 generations. I'll explain them with diff and
models(european models. Sorry for US listers.)

<First Generation> - early Qs. 1981-1987

-frt diff : bevel gear (non locking)
-center	diff : bevel gear (manual locking)
-rear	diff : bevel gear (manual locking)

<Second Generation> - Audi 80, 90, later 100,200(44Q), 100(C4), EVEN RS2
AVANT

-frt diff : bevel gear (non locking)
-center	diff : TORSEN (Automatic locking)
-rear	diff : bevel gear (manual locking)

<Third Generation> - Audi V8 with Automatic transmission. - The first
Auto-Quattro

-frt diff : bevel gear (non locking)
-center	diff : planetary gear with computer controlled mult-plate diff.
clutch
               (Automatic locking)
-rear	diff : TORSEN (Automatic locking)

<Fourth Generation> - Audi A4, A6(old & new), S6, S6 Plus, A8, S8

-frt diff : bevel gear (Automatic locking by EDL)
-center	diff : TORSEN (Automatic locking)
BUT, Early A8 4.2Q uses old V8's center diff system.
Now, A8 4.2Q and S8 also uses TORSEN, but distribution
ratio
is different. (65:35 vise versa, Others 78:22)
-rear	diff : bevel gear (Automatic locking by EDL)

And, New A6 2.8Q and upcomming S4 biturbo uses EDL activated upto 80
km/h. Other's EDL upto 40km/h

Thanks.
