88-90 Valve Job
Just finished the valve job on the wife's 88-90.
Basically it was just a "clean-up" & "install new guide seals"
type of job!
I had removed the head, intake manifold and exhaust manifolds
all together as one assembly! HEAVY! Almost dropped it too!
After the head was out, I disassembled the valves, removed them,
cleaned them up, and checked guide wear. The guide seals were
"rock hard" and had been letting too much oil past them for a while now!
(1 quart every 3 months) The guides were well within limits! Good!
Although I had anticipated changing them too!
The valves had a little carbon build up on their face and back, especially
the
exhaust valves. Cleaned them up, cleaned up the ports, and reinstalled.
Replaced guide seals, and lapped the valve seats!
Replaced head gasket, and head bolts, as well as exhaust gaskets, since
I found one leaking!
Over all the head with 132,000 miles was in "excellent" condition!
After it was back together, it fired right up. On the test drive, the car
had more
pickup, and ran smoother!
The wife even noticed the improvement!
