O2 sensors again...
Not bad Scott!! I had to go get another beer while reading it ;)
The one fault I think I found in your message was the start-up time of the
sensor. I think it might be more like 5-6 minutes instead of 1-2. In most
Bosch systems, they are still most likely engaged in the warm-up enrichment
phase at that point, due to low coolant temp. Being that the coolant sensor
(sometimes reffered to as NCT) is the most important sensor in pre digifant
or L-jetronic systems, it makes little diff. that the O2 sensor is working
until coolant temps have risen substanstially.
We have a very updated labscope set-up and although I've seen slight 'waves'
when warming up, it wasn't until after 5 minutes that the heated O2 sensors
really woke up. Another thing to remember is placement of the sensor. If you
ever thought of adding a sensor to your car (for whatever reason) placement
is critical, as being too far away from the engine will result in the sensor
not getting warm enough. That's why on your single wire sensors, they are
usually found on the manifold itself, where it's always a lovely experience
getting them out. Now-a-days, they are on or near the cat, or at least
within easy reach.
