Why not use some of the Meguiar's "Final Inspection" stuff?  It's kind
of like 409 or any other household cleaner, except that it's supposed
to be gentle on the wax.  Seems to work ok.

You'll need a paper towel, but then I carry a roll anyway to wipe the
dipstick and/or my hands.
