IMO, the Modine rad that the local radiator shop supplied was a good
choice. All-metal, lifetime warranty (even when customer-installed) and,
in the case of my 5kt, drops cruising temp by about 1/4 of the gauge
range. It was $200, and I can't remember the exact figure for a dealer
radiator, but it was a bit higher. I've had no problems with the Modine
for the last 18 months it's been in.

I was experiencing the same problem with the coolant fittings- I snapped
the little one (for the overflow tank) clean off. JB Weld applied to the
fragments held this together for about six months. Then the top inlet
shattered in traffic. The clamp on it broke the little pipe off *again*. I
ordered a new radiator (by pay-phone!) and clamped the hoses to the stubs
of the inlet pipes to get it home. A quick refill of water and I drove it
like this for two days waiting for the new rad...

Love the Audi. Love the style and the power and the efficiency. Hate the
guy who signed off on all the plastic parts which had no business being
made of plastic:)
