Consider it verified ... I've got one in my '89 200q as I write this and it
works fine.  Of course, I also had to install an early-style water pump and
crankshaft sprocket at the same time (the new-style ones have smaller teeth
and more of them) but that isn't a big deal if you're also doing the timing
belt...
