I drove the 5KS for a year with a known dead cell in the
battery, since the car started with half a turn of the
key, it was never a problem. But when the battery finally
did "go" it seemed it had gone "all of a sudden". If I
hadn't checked it with the load tester, I would never
had known it was bad. The battery was a true 12 volts
until a load was applied to it, then the load tester
would take a nosedive into the red zone.
Did the hydrometer test, and according to the hydrometer
test, all cells were fine under no load. But after a load
test the hydrometer would indicate a bad cell. So, to
get an accurate portrait of the actual condition of
your battery, it seems the hydrometer test should be
performed after a load test. A good resistence battery
tester/charging system unit only costs about $50, and
you wonder how you got along without it after you buy one.
