I never really considered the 5000 to be a decent autocrosser.
Granted, I'm not after a national championship, but would
it be worth even trying?  One of the things that has kept me
from moving from my 84 4000q to a newer 5000tq is the inability
to autocross it, at least with any hope. (the other two things
being 1) too much $ into this car and 2) the 5000's higher 
maintenance costs).
