Re: Dander up! (kinda long...)
Okay, as a 7 time Audi owner I'll jump into the fray here...But allow me to
preface that *I* prefer the looks of the ur-q and 4kq the best of all the
quattros (nomex donned...)

The 5000 series looks can grow on you and it truly is now a "classic" design
that looks as fresh today as it did 15 years ago. Most (non Audi-ite)
beholders who see my new toy (Nautic Blue with Fuchs wheels) have no clue it
is 12 years old and feel it is a strikingly attractive car and much newer.
<<Remember that the 'timeless' lines of the 5000 were a little controversial
when it first came out. And those looks have been refreshed before...just
not this drastically.>>
Agreed...the family lines still show though today in the A6 to some degree.
<<How about the 20V hood change?>>
How 'bout it? Having just almost bought one of those "beasts" I can state
that it is exactly the same hood. You are mistaking the 20v with the V8 hood
treatment.
<<IMHO, a change for the better.>>
Agreed...but only noticable when viewed straight on.
<<My '88 90q surely would have looked better with the '89 hood change as
well.>>
Nope...would look just the same cuz the 88 and 89 hoods be the same. Now,
while on the subject of beauty in the eye of the beholder...one of my Audis
was an '88 80q which not only is my least favorite overall that I have owned
(cosemticly and peroformance-wise) but also the one which garnered the most
"that car is ugly" compared to your old one (it replaced a 4kcsq) statements
of any Audi I have owned. I feel that the change in body from the 4kq to
80/90 series was only "fixed" with the introduction of the A4.
You are correct that beauty is in the eye of the beholder though...all I know
is that from behind the steering wheel, my driving experience from a 5ktq (or
200q) is far more beautiful than any other Audi I have owned. I write this as
I gaze at a photo I shot in '88 of the 200q Trans-Am car and see no lack of
beauty to this beholder.
