Re: 5KS Bucking Bronco...
I would start by checking the motor/transmission mounts and making sure
the engine/driveline isn't moving under load. This could have broken a
wire somewhere. In other words, I'm thinking it could be an intermittently
broken or spliced wire somewhere that is making and then breaking
when the engine is under stress.
This comes not from any direct experience with an Audi but rather my
old '68 Corvette. The car would idle in the driveway, you could rev the
engine, etc. Smooth as silk. Put it in gear and let the clutch out -- boom,
the engine dies. Sloooooooowly let the clutch out and get rolling,
everything's fine until you give it gas -- dies again.
Pulled my hair out looking for the cause until I unwrapped the ignition
wiring harness and found a marginal splice in the supply to the coil.
Fixed the splice - no more problems.
Maybe get under the hood with the engine running and jostle <gently>
some of the wiring and see if you can get it to die.
Otherwise, I would think maybe a stuck fuel distributor that won't meter
fuel once the metering plate rises (I.e., under load) could be the cause.
Best Wishes,
Alex Kowalski
