Chains on A4 225/50-16

Having just fitted 225/50 Falkens to my 16 inch rims and planning a trip
to the skifields I thought I'd see if my chains would still fit.

They didn't!!

The clearance from the tirewall to the suspension arms both front and
rear is so small the chains could not be passed to the rear of the tire.
I've had no rubbing or fouling at all wheel locks and fast twisty driving.

BTW the manual specifically forbids fitting of chains to 16 inch rims
anyway, presumably for fear of suspension/body damage. 

Judging by the poor driving by many drivers on ski access roads here, if
conditions were such that 4WD needed chains, I'd rather park safely at
the bottom and take the bus!!
