Audi braking (not breaking)

OK: here's a question for some of you Audi wizards that is not about a
breaking Audis, but about braking Audis. I made the mistake of giving a
friend an issue of R&T. He loves to put down anything he doesn't happen to
have so he went looking in the test results summary and came up with the
fact that the tested Audis had long braking distances compared to other
performance sedans. I told him it is probably because AoA saves money by
putting sh---y tires on the cars. Is that the reason, or is something else
going on?
