Phil may be right, but that was exactly the problem with my 91 200q. Ned
Ritchie had - at the time - seen another 3 3B equipped cars with this
problem, so I wouldn't wait too long to check it out.
BTW, once you're in there, you may as well reroute the hose from the
back of the intake manifold to the wastegate valve, so that it doesn't
run with the intercooler hose along the cylinder head where it tends to
get fried (if you haven't done so already).

I'm with your mechanic - it could be almost anything, and the wastegate
frequency valve would be a fair way down my list. It's a pretty easy
device to
check with the on-board diagnostics - I would expect that to have been
done
already, and if not it takes a couple of minutes. I'd start with the
idle
switch and ISV, and then run through the controller inputs.
