No. The idea is to reduce the load on the crank bearings and journals,
especially the compression stroke. I'm assuming, of course, that you always
clean the plug seat before removing the plug - a lot of air will get blown in
and out, and any crap lying around the seat will get sucked into the engine. I
have a 1/2" paintbrush that I failed to get all of the paint out of one day -
it's nice and stiff with soft ends, and I always brush around the seats before
removing the plugs.

No - it's straight up and down, only for a total of ten seconds, and still
pretty well lubricated.
