Center driveshaft CV joints
Just spoke with an independent Porsche/Audi shop here about my center
driveshaft. He seems to be pretty knowledge. He said there is a grease
fitting on the center U-joint, and that the CV joints at each end can be
greased by lifting the boot and sticking a grease needle in there. He went
on to say that CV joints from a 84-88 911 Carrera work as replacements.
I know some of this has been discussed on the list (center U-joint
greasing) but I thought the CV joint source was new info for
consideration. He sounds like a real mechanic, not a component
swapper. I'm going to leave the 200qw with him next week to take a look
at the driveshaft.
His wife has an 86 5kcstq (that originally was to be his ;-)| ) and he has
played with it to increase boost. Something about drilling an additional
orifice somewhere. Doesn't sound like it maintains any ECU safeguards,
but he says it's been that way for a while and it hasn't blown up yet.
He seems to know & like Audi's and sounds willing to do performance
work on them, but said no one wants to spend the money. Well, here I
am. Hopefully he'll turn out to be good and I can avoid the dealer.
He was busy last week prepping P-cars for the Atlanta Historics (?) and
now will be busy with the same cars prepping for something at Daytona.
Sounds interesting.
