My '87 5000t has had about every possible stereo permutation: In the stock
openings, 5.25" speakers fit fine. I built mine out for 6.5"'s with MDF
and covered them in matching vinyl. The speakers got ruined (not enough
power) and I had a set of Focal 5.25" so in they went. In my particular
set-up, these are augmented by Pioneer 4" separates in the dash openings.
This is, IMO, about as much front stage as one can get in one of these w/o
cutting trim. Incidentally, I don't think you can beat the Focals for
front door use at high power levels.
No, I fear I don't need the sub. Mine has 3 Rockford-Fosgate 12" in the
trunk floor...
