Take a good look at the wiring for the alternator.  Often the terminals
corrode and all it takes is a little force to break the wire from the
connector or make them contact intermittently.  BTDT on my 4KQ after running
through a sizable puddle.  I thought the alternator was shot and then gave a
little tug on the wiring and the wire pulled right out of the corroded
connector.  Also could be that your alternator mounts were loosening and the
impact jarred the alternator away from the belt slightly so that it's no
longer turning but not so loose that the belt flew off.  Measure the
alternator voltage and make sure it's charging.
