Thanks for the help and offers of help on this.  I have discovered that in their
great wisdom, Audi kept the color codes on almost every connection to the
headlight, hazard and rear defroster switches the same when they changed the
switch style for the newer (late 80's) dashboard.  Cool.  Still not looking
forward to all that splicing!

PS I am in search of another headlight switch to replace the spring I lost
dismantling it to clean the contacts.  Switch does not have to work...
