Used Cars Stories (was: Coupe update)

Audi Dudi mentioned in an earlier post, regarding used car inspections
and the owners of the used vehicle, unwillingness to let one inspect the
car!

I had a person call the Sheriff, to arrest me, after I looked under the
hood of
the car they were selling!

They accused me of "Damaging the engine"!

Apparently they believed my "look-see" under the hood caused an engine
related malfunction.

The women was quoted as saying "he touched one of the hose's"!

Of course they forgot to mention, the car broke down 2 weeks after I had
looked at it, and several people after myself had also "peered under the
hood"

The judge tried convincing the couple, "they had NO case", but
they were sure "someone" caused the engine to overheat, and seize!

Another time I went by a used car lot, and off in the "back area"
was an 1988 90 Q. I asked one of the salesmen, what was up with the Audi
off in the back, and he stated it was broke!

The salesmen being about 21 years old, I asked exactly what was wrong with
the car?

He asked a few of the other salesmen, and one came forward and said
the engine was bad!

So I asked if I could take a look!

The car was in great shape, inside and out, leather & wood trim, etc...
Judging by its condition, someone had taken care of it well!

The young salesmen followed me out with the key, and proceeded to
explain what was wrong with the motor. He felt it had "bad bearings"!

Once he started the engine, I could see why they felt the way they did!

What he had was the lifters, and their customary noise!

Apparently when people were interested in the car, they would start it
and be taken back by the noise!(unfamiliar with Audi's)
Of course no one wants to by a car with a noisy engine!

So if asked them "How much"?

They quoted me the "low-wholesale" price of $2100 for a 1988 90Q!
(the year was 1993)

Of course to follow through with the scam, I had the car towed to my house!

To this day, the car drives fine!
