Blower Motor

-=> Peter Kollias illuminates us with <=-

 PK> Hey everyone,

PK> This is a question that has me stumped. I have an 86 5KTQ whose
PK> blower motor (for the ventilation) has quit. I'm pretty sure its due
PK> to the brushes on the motor itself, which in turn means that it needs
 PK> to be replaced.
PK> Does anyone know of any tips on the best way to tackle this wonderful
 PK> task?

     Peter:

When the blower goes the 1st time, you can usually
remove that little rubber tube/grommet on the side
of the the plenum box and push down on the brushes
with a small screwdriver. Cleaning the brushes with
some contact cleaner or such would help also. I did
this when the blower died on the 5KS, and it went for
almost another year and a half before I had to change
     the blower motor.
If this doesn't bring the blower back to some semblance
of life, it's REALLY gone, or the problem may lie
     elsewhere.
