Audi's UFO definition

     From the V8 engineering factbook:

"The high performance - yet safety-oriented - driving
characteristics of the Audi V8 are further improved by an advanced
brake system developed for Audi in conjunction with the anti-lock
     braking system.
The most important feature of this system is the
proprietary front disc brake design. While on conventional disc brake
systems the brake caliper is wrapped around the outside of the brake
disc, in this system a dish-shaped brake disc has a brake caliper
deployed at its inner radius - a so called internal caliper design.
The design allows for packaging of a larger diameter
brake disc - hence greater stopping power - within the confines of a
15-inch diameter wheel rim. When compared to the conventional disc for
this application, brake operating temperatures are reduced, decreasing
the likelihood of fade under extreme braking loads. Durability is thus
     also improved.
By retaining the 15 inch wheel and tire instead of going
to a 16 inch wheel with low profile tires, high levels of ride, noise
     comfort and quality are retained."

When I started looking at used V8s I was told to stay
away from the UFO equipped cars because the rotors warp and could not
be turned. It's unfortunate, with 17% larger swept area it really is a
     nice design.
