The warranty on their trannies continues to be 12months or
12,000 miles, both of which you were beyond. You should
have called Benz or at least the zone rep to see if something
could be done. I've seen Mercyless Benz pick up the tab to
change cams on a V8 when they failed because of soft metal,
even after the warranty period. It also helps alot if the
independent garage has a good relationship with the dealer-
ship, when this is the case, the kind of problem you had
with your tranny are usually resolved favorably without
the customer even having to do more than drop the car off
at the independent. The dealer has to go out of his way
a little bit, which they'll do if they have a good
relationship with the independent.
The "extra" warrantee you got by taking the car to the
dealer is non-existant with Audi though. Same time/miles
no matter who installs it.
An '86 190, of well, you did clarify it by IMHO. ;)
