4000q overheating

Hi there,
I have an 84' 4000q and my fan is part of the ignition. ie... It
will ONLY work with the ignition on. As I understand it, this is normal
for the 84' model year but on newer years, (read..85'-87') is is
independent of the ignition so the fan can run after the car is turned
off. This is not for sure but I have heard this from a few reliable
sources. Can't remember where though? But I think they were reliable.
Anyhow, Just my 2 bits.
As for as the problem, I would guess the fan is not getting power
which caused it to overheat and cracked the coolant box. Replace the
coolant box and make sure the fan is getting power.
Hope this is of some help. L8R
