Hmm... I think this applies to my car... so I guess I'll wait and see if I get a notice. I wonder if I can get them to install (probably at an additional cost, of course) that wonderful three spoke sport rim available in the A4 (you know, the one that options for $150.00), as an upgrade to my "basic" steering wheel with airbag? That would surely be nice...
Here's what it said:
INGOLSTADT, Germany (Reuter) - German car
maker Audi AG, a unit of Volkswagen AG, said
Friday it is recalling more than 900,000 cars to
modify airbags in certain models.
The cars affected are 835,000 Audi 80, A4 and
A8 models, built in 1995 and 1996, as well as
68,000 Audi 80, Audi 100, Audi 200, Audi V8,
Coupe and Cabriolet models built between 1988 and
1992.
Around 410,000 of the affected cars are in
Germany.
Audi said that, in the specified models built
between 1995 and 1996, stormy conditions could
create static electricity that could cause the airbags to
deploy.
An Audi spokesman said the company had been
informed of certain incidents where this had
happened but no one had been injured.
This couldn't happen while the car was moving,
Audi said, and the modifications would stop it from
happening at all.
In the older models being recalled, the devices are
being upgraded with a more modern airbags.
Audi said it isn't yet known how much the recall
will cost the company.
The owners of the cars will be notified soon, Audi
said.
