VW Quantum coupe-- Audi Coupe pedigree question.

      I still have a '83 VW Quantum (Passat) TD coupe that I bought
     back '82.  This car was only imported one year to the States and
     looks remarkably similar in shape to Audi Coupe and perhaps plain jane 
     derivative of the UR-quattros.  Can anybody shed any light on whether 
     the Audi and VW coupes were in fact the same platform-- similar to the 
     A4/Passat game we have now. Hey I not drawing any comparsions mind.
     This TD Quantum coupe was performance dog but handled quite nicely.
     Great econony car but I lost my senses trading my '74 914 2.0 for it.

     ps This VW coupe bodystyle was very popular in Turkey and Brasil 
     based on my extended travels to those countries.
