Front-Hinged Hoods (Bonnets to our UK Listers)
Huw Powell commented:
never liked forward opening hoods . . . there must be some advantages
though, what are they? . . .
Don't have my sales literature collection handy, but I seem to recall that
Ford, who used front-hinged hoods on it's '57-'59 models, tried to make
a safety case for them. If the hood wasn't fully latched, the wind
couldn't pop it open on the run.
On another topic, did any listers attend the fall AACA show at Hershey,
PA last weekend? For me it's an annual trek, one of the highlights of
the year for this collector car enthusiast. Not much attraction for those
whose interest is strictly in Audis, I suppose. As I literature collector, I
make a special effort to watch for Audi stuff in the extensive flea market
area but didn't find much this year beyond the occasional '70s/early'80s
non-Quattro catalog. I did buy a folder on the late '50s Auto Union
sports model that resembles a scaled down '57 T-Bird. What surprised
me is that it wasn't marketed as a DKW, even though it's based on
Deek mechanicals.
