Re: I'm I getting ripped?

Hang on a second. Did you you say you diassembled everything but the
belt itself? Why didn't you finish the job yourself? There are few things
more frustrating to a mehanic than being handed a job partially completed by
someone else. One loses the rythym of the job. Would he be able to run the
engine to hear this tick if its partially dissembled? For that matter this
probably is true of most anything; how would a program designer feel if
someone were to ask them to get the bugs out of a partially compleded
program?
The large bolt is probably the crankshaft pulley bolt. I don't have the
torque spec, but its tight, very tight, and have seen these be very stuborn
indeed on a car as old as yours. Stubborness = $
My advice is that if your going to someone do a job for you let them do
it. The time and therefore $ saved by taking it apart yourself is seldom more
efficient. In fact there aren't many good mechs that will accept a job like
that because of the type of criticism your guy is receiving now. At this
point someone has to finish it and I would guess that whoever gets the honor
is in control of the cost. BTW the water pump should b changed at this point
regardless of whether its leaking now or not.
