timing belt, water piu

Hello Again,

Sure enough, it is time for my '86 4kCSQ to get a timing belt.  A few people
have indicated that it should get a water pump at the same time.  The dealers
and local "qualified" mechanics are estimating betweem $300-500 for the job.
Is this reasonable???  How difficult is the job for a home mechanic?  Any way
to shave this price down a bit???


One last problem...   The odometer on the car is no longer functional.  The
speedo is fine, but no odometer.  Any ideas on how I can get this working???
