Regarding specifications for E-spec lights.

>From the Hella Catalogue:

DOT Sealed Beams:
Low Beam Range 500'
High Beam Range 950'

E-Spec Lamps:
Low Beam Range 650'+
High Beam Range 1200'+

Also, having installed E-spec Rectangular H4 housings in my 84 4kq, the
beam pattern and overall brightness are far more controlled and increased
over the standard sealed beams.
