RE: You're-a-peein' lights?
Though I could contribute to this "lights adjusting" thread.
When I bought my 5K, it already came with the lights converted to euro
spec, dual bulb Audi 200 headlamps. The previous owner did this to
conform to the local law right after bringing the car from US. One light
was adjusted a little too low, but I couldn't find the adjusting screw -
there was a big knob for horizontal adjustment, but no screw for
vertical adjustment - as far as I could see (mind you - it is tight
around headlamps on 5K). Changing the air filter was a good occasion to
inspect the nature of the beast, as a RH headlamp had to come off anyway
:-) I were surprised to see that there indeed was no mechanism for
vertical adjustment - the operating lever was hold stationary by a rod
connected to the cover placed right where the adjusting mechanism should
be bolted. (Just for clarification - on these headlamps the case and
lens are stationary and the reflector with bulb is moving inside). I
understand 200s can have manually or electrically adjusted headlamps,
but no adjustment at all? It all looked factory and the lamps were
apparently bought used, so they must had been taken off the registered
car. How could they have no adjustment at all? First I thought about
buying a pair of adjusters (it is simply a matter of removing the blind
cover and putting an adjuster), but dealer means $$$ and junkyard means
"sorry, we don't have that", so I decided to perform a little DIY work.
I removed the rod and drilled a hole in the cover. Then I glued a nut to
the operating lever. I inserted a long bolt... voila, adjustable
headlamps! :-)
