Re: "Turkey Noise" coming from the engine compartment
I had an intermittent "turkey noise" on my '87 5KCSTQ which only
occurred in cold weather - as in below about 30 deg. F. - While it was
"gobbling" I felt the distributor and could feel the vibration. I pulled
the distributor out and checked it out. Bronze bearings were good - no
side to side play but I noticed some blackish "sludge" and some very fine
metal flakes - looked like bronze. I thoroughly cleaned the bearing areas
- worked the shaft up and down and re-lubed with Castrol Syntec 5W-50 which
I also use as the regular engine lube. That was around Dec. '96 and have
never heard the "gobbling" since. We'll see if I make it through this
winter without the "turkey" coming back.

If you are interested - I "now" know the easy way to remove that
cover over the bolt that holds down the distributer.
