The 1985-1989 Buick LeSabre, a fairly common car, is a good example of a
front-tilting hood, and uses the exact setup you have described. The hood
closes very solid, and doesn't rattle or flex if your rubber cushions
aren't worn. The hooks on the LeSabre are very thick, about 3/8" of
stamped steel, and I'd bet the hood would buckle long before the hooks
would give.
I stripped one of these cars as a donor vehicle for my mid-engine car
project, and the torx bolts that hold those hood catches (by the
windshield) down were in solid, deep, and tight.
