The MB engine has dished pistons - but at TDC the piston crown is level with
the top of the block, and as far as I can see the only thing that stops the
piston actually hitting the head is the thickness of the head gasket. The
maximum valve lift is sufficient to drop the head of the valve below the
bottom of the head and into the swept area of the bore.
I would not even risk turning my engine by hand to check for any interference,
perhaps somebody else would like to test their engine?
