Hi, I am new to the list.  A friend of mine just bought a quattro, and I
fell in love.  The thing corners better than my Porsche.  Anyways, I found
an '85 4000  forsale, but it has about 300,000 miles on it, and it has had
no major overhaul of the engine.  The person who owns it says that it is
in good shape, and runs great.  He has replaced a bunch of stuff including
shocks.  We said that all electrical works except the heater stays on, and
the sunroof has been siliconed shut because the seal was bad, and it was
leaking.  The person wants about $1,700 for it.  A friend of mine has an
'81 5000 turbo parts car that I could likely take the engine out of if
need be.  So, what do you guys thing of this?  At 300,000 miles, is it
near the end of its life?  Or could this be a deal for me?  Let me know.
