Audi 200 doors, Bozo audi-o

Hi Al/all,

The Bentley has arrived! So what did I do?

I took my driver's door apart this weekend to look at the alarm switch on top
of the lock cylinder, which was my suspected cause of the alarm not (dis)arming
from the driver's side (passenger side arms/disarms fine). I got in there
looking at the little white box, and I could still hear the switch getting
actuated, just like the passenger side one. Do the contacts get dirty or
something, so that it really is the switch being faulty, or should I go look at
the control relay for a loose connection?

Also figured out that my driver's-window-only-one-working is not in fact the
lockout switch, since that only affects the rear windows and not the right
front, but the power window/sunroof control double relay or the connection
there that is supposed to supply power to the other three windows. Anybody
BTDT? Mine works the first time after I R&R the relay then quits, but I can't
tell if it's the relay or the connection. Guess I need to drive around with the
DMM some more. Wonder how much those relays cost...

And also also, I was reading Al's Bozo replacement story, so I gave my door
speakers the once over while I was at it. They look like they are made from
paper towels, the single-cone abominations. Al/anyone, are you still using the
Bozo drivers wired direct, or have you replaced them with some other 5" speaker
that has 3-120deg mounting holes? And my newly-arrived Bentley does not show
(wires for) *any* dash speakers, which would explain your difficulty in finding
them despite the misleading dash grilles. Just the paper-towel doors and
supposedly a high and low driver per side in the rear deck, but no dash
speakers except for the hands-free phone speaker in the passenger side, which I
don't have anyway. At least replacing a four-speaker system instead of a
six-speaker system means I don't really need to get into bunches of amps and
lots of wiring, as I had feared. And the Audi CD changer was an RF deal, so I
didn't even want that either.

Then just for fun I ground down some 9007s and replaced my 9004s, nearly
completely shattering one connector in the process of rewiring it (while the
other remains completely intact!). Better, but still no comparison to the
E-codes in the GTI. Still, it was only $16. Thought it was worth a try before I
went for the big bucks. Gonna have to order some H4$. Are there two layers in
the DOT lenses? Because I have some apparent condensation in the passenger side
headlight that isn't on the outside and isn't on the inside either. Getting
less light out of that one.

And hey! My parking brake was sticking this morning on the way to work. Now
that, the GTI does too. Guess I'll stop using the p-brake in this car too.
