With all due respect (never a problem you can't solve Audi-wise, Phil) I
think we might be talking about two different means of measuring octane.
USA hi-test is anywhere from 91-93 octane. Was that way back in the brief
reign of the urq in the 80s, too. So I can't imagine them specifying a
fuel unavailable outside racetracks- but it is AoA after all.

87 5kcst. Fuel door says 92 octane minimum, owners manual states 87 octane
US permissible. Hence my theory on different measurement. Maybe it's
Whitworth gas;)
