Yes, quite often there is a sealing ring between the two flanges
which leaves a gap... if it's nuts and bolts, you can just saw the
bolts in half thru the gap between the flanges.  You probably want
to replace these rusty old nuts and bolts anyway.

Do make sure they aren't studs before you start sawing though :0
