... the primary motivation behind having the radio power available at all
times is that the VWs and Audis lack an "accessory" position on the ignition
switch. Most (all?) American and Asian marques include this position.
I actually have used the switch that detects when you leave the key in
the ignition to beep the bell when you open the door as a energizing
source for a relay that powered an aftermarket radio that had lights
that were always on when power was applied. If someone was looking
for a means to provide something like an accessory position this might
be a way to do it.
