i've *never* had a transmission problem on my quattros.  10v & 20v 
ur-q, s2 and now rs2.  also as far as i am aware, the rs2 uses the 
same quattro components (including gearbox) as the s2 for 50% more 
horsepower loadings...  the original s2 used a modified coupe quattro 
gearbox, which was supposed to be a little weak for added hp 
applications.  the new 6-speed box in the s2/rs2 is a lot stronger...

It seems as though the gripes about Audi not properly beefing up 
components
for the added horsepower is growing over time.
It seems odd to me that with the relatively rare number of S4s and 
S6s
around there's ALWAYS one on a lift at my mechanic's whenever I'm in
there...and owning a rare beast can be very expensive...ask me.
