Re:Plastic Rad Repair

Mine went on my '86 5KTQ at 93k miles. I got a used one from VW Parts (in
the vendor list) for $95 dollars - it was in _great_ condition. Some of the
people on the list have had success (?) repairing the top nipple with pipe
and epoxy, while others have gone the route of getting an all-metal radiator
(Modine, I believe) for about $200. VW Parts sells a new replacement
plastic-tanked radiator for about the same price, in that case I'd probably
get the all-metal one but I was on a budget. Repairing it has met with mixed
reviews from the local radiator shops here - some say they can, some say
they've tried the pipe/epoxy fix and it leaks, some say it's just impossible.
I didn't want to let someone try it if they weren't confident it would hold.

Best Wishes,

Alex
