They won't fix it. Probably call it a wear item.
Anyone BTDT, does the door harness unplug from the rest of the chassis

It did on the 86 5k, but you have to take the door apart to get it out.
I once spliced about 18 wires in one of these harnesses. I recommend
a soldering gun and heat shrink tubing.
Don't bother asking the dealer the price of one of these harnesses,
I think the 86 version was $180 or so.

...should be one of the first places to look when anything controlled
by a switch in the drivers door starts acting up.
