Magnacharger

Several years ago, when I was driving a Scirocco, I recall seeing
a supercharger kit for VWs called a magnacharger.  The impellers
were hollow and they claimed you could take off the belt and the
blower would freewheel with no significant performance penalty.

Anyone know what I'm talking about and if they were ever
available for Audis?  Seems to me like a good way
to eliminate the turbo lag on the older 5ks.
