Re: Mini Audi adventure/Stage III mods
Linus,
Over the weekend at the Quattro PIR event, I went for a
ride with Kent C. who owns a 91 200TQ with the same Stage
III IA mod you mentioned and measured the boost pressure
seen at the ECU and saw ~2.15 bar max with less boost as
the RPM's climbed. The air temp was around 60F. The latest
Web page information from IA indicates the Stage III mod
with the 2.5 bar CPU provides up to 277hp.
Kent is very happy with the mod. The dash boost gauge was
off as you indicated. I suppose an op amp could be added to
the circuit to get the reading up to 2.0-2.1 bar where the
stock boost gauge tops out.
I noticed on a earlier version of the IA product listing
that the mods available for the 91 200TQ 20V were as
follows: Stage 1, Computer mod only 240hp, Stage II
Computer mod and new exhaust manifold, up to 260hp, and
finally Stage III, 2.5 bar sensor in computer, Exhaust
manifold and racing turbo up to 290hp. I also found in the
old defunct Audi Motorist magazine (Nov 1993) that Ned
recommended using this modified exhaust manifold as in some
cases exhaust valves in cylinders 1 and 5 can be burned if
extensive mods are done without changing the manifold.
Now that you have been running the stage III mod for
awhile, do you know why the special exhaust manifold is no
longer required in order to produce over 240hp as was
explained previously? I had a local list member who called
about chip mods and was interested in chipping his 20V but
I didn't think about this issue until now.
Does anyone know what Hoppen provides for 1991 200TQ 20V
turbo mods these days and whether they include changing the
exhaust manifold and or the turbo?
Thanks
Scott M.
